Nicola Broughton

Nicola is a highly accomplished business leader, entrepreneur and investor in the life science industry. 

She has over 20 years’ experience in sourcing, starting and growing life science businesses predominantly from the University sector. 

Nicola was awarded top 50 movers and shakers in biotechnology 2019 recognising women contributing significantly to the life science industry in the UK. 

Having previously worked as an Investor Director for Mercia Asset Management Plc, managing relationships with their 19 University Partners and sourcing new startups and spinouts from universities in their key areas of the Midlands, North and Scotland. Nicola also managed a portfolio of university businesses (taking a non executive director role).She was Fund Prinicpal for Mercia Fund 1 (MF1).

Her experience includes–identifying commercial opportunities; IP protection, strategy and management; freedom to operate; licensing; cross licensing; due diligence; raising finance in both the public and private sectors, writing business plans; experience of negotiating commercial deals with large and small corporations; executive and non–executive management experience of spin outs; due diligence; expansion, management and strategy; investment and portfolio management; fund management.
